What is a RailsCamp?

A regular, inclusive, friendly gathering of Ruby enthusiasts. You’ll be with a group of programmers in a nice location amongst the trees in the hills of the Yarra Valley, one of Melbourne’s most famous gourmet wine regions. Together we’ll be sharing our knowledge, helping each other learn, hacking on projects large and small and generally having loads of fun together.

What to expect:

  • Hacking (bring a project idea)
  • Learning and teaching (watch talks, find a mentor, bring a speaking topic)
  • Werewolf
  • Campfire chats and toasted marshmallows
  • Making new friends

Who should attend?

You should totally attend! The event is open to anyone, but if you’re generally interested in technology or coding you’ll find you’ll have an even better time.

RailsCamp is an inclusive event, and attendees who purchase a ticket agree to abide by the Ruby Australia Code of Conduct. We welcome everyone and ensure a safe inclusive space for all.

Where, What, When?

We’ll be deep in the woods at Camp Toolangi in the beautiful Yarra Valley, just one hour from Melbourne’s CBD. Our camp is set on 12 acres of natural bushland that adjoins the Toolangi State Forest so there’ll be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors if your heart so desires.

Your ticket will include accommodation, 3 meals a day, non-alcoholic drinks, fruit and some snacks. Coffee? We’ll have Coffee on Cue’s onsite barista providing coffee during the day on Saturday and Sunday, and plenty of beans from Sample Coffee for your Aeropress/Chemex needs. We’ll be providing buses from/to Federation Square (in the CBD) and Tullamarine Airport, and we’ll try to facilitate a way for you to rideshare with people driving where possible (expect these seats to be extremely limited).

We’re still finalising the exact pick up details but please arrive at Tullamarine Airport on Friday, November 10th before 2:00PM (and a bit earlier is wise, especially for international flights) and be in the CBD before before 2:30PM.

We’ll have you back to the airport in time for flights departing after 1:30PM on Monday, November 13th.
